Marilyn is bionic now.

She had the hip replacement surgery early this morning and is doing fine. She keeps telling me it's so nice to sleep without pain. For the past couple of months she was up every couple of hours at night, alternating between the bed and the couch trying to get comfortable. If all goes well she'll be home Wednesday. It's not that bad of a surgery anymore compared to what it was several years ago. This one should be good for 20 years or so. I'm sleeping on a hide-a-bed in the room with her. Very convenient since we're 125 miles from home. Jim

Two types now, anterior and posterior. Longer recovery time with the posterior and more muscles cut but supposedly fewer complications.
Had mine replaced late January, leg with new hip is now an inch longer which messes up my gait.
Full recovery can take up to five or six months.
Glad your wife is doing well.

Fixerupper,

That is great! I hope she recovers with no troubles at all.

My mom had her knees replaced and it was great for her to not have immense pain every time she moved.

Did the bionic woman have the same sound effects as the six million dollar man? I can't remember.

deh deh deh dehhhhh

You'll have to make those noises every time she walks.

I'm sure she'll appreciate it. : )

Glad to hear she's doing well.

Hers is posterior. The doc said there's more chance for problems with anterior including cracking the bone. One of Marilyn's friends had an anterior hip replacement done and she was talking about how fast the recovery was and was recommending it. Marilyn's doc said he's done it the anterior way but went back to posterior. Marilyn is allergic to some of the good pain meds so they're still experimenting with something that works. When it wears off the pain level is pretty high but when the med kicks in it's tollerable.

We had a little excitement yesterday when she came back to the room after surgery. She was just settled in and the storm sirens went off . Then the electricity went down. Soon after that everyone was moved to the hallway. Patients, family, nurses, everyone was in the hallway. All patients on our floor were joint patients so no one was on life soupport or anything like that.

She was very emotional when she woke up because she survived the surgery. On June 28th it will be 11 years ago that our daughter passed away from a surgical mistake and that was weighing pretty heavy on us. She said she's going to have to wait a little longer till she gets to see Lisa again. Anyway, it's just a matter of time till she's up and around. Until then I'm going to have to brush up on my cooking skills. LOL Jim

She should be good as new in 6 weeks or so. Have had a few in our office go through the replacement.

One hip and she's bionic? She's just getting started! :) My Dad has had both hips, both knees, and both shoulders done. (thanks to degenerative arthritis) Do the physical therapy, and the hip should be just fine.

Glad to hear she's doing well.
We wish her a speedy and complete recovery.
Don't learn to cook too well, unless you want a full time job! :)

Yes she did with the exeption of the ear. That was a different sound than the bionic eye, but the other sounds were the same. You would think with millions of dollars they would have been able to get that annoying sound out of her hearing... hee hee :)
