Country Traffic Jams

Anyone have the same problem I do. I can sit in my truck for any amount of time. Not a single vehicle will be on the road.Start to back out and the road turns into a major highway. When I drive the back roads on my weekly BEER run. I always end up with four or five behind me. I think if there were only two people on earth. The other one would be right behind me.

We usually park away from other cars when we go shopping - and when we come back to the car, there are other cars parked right next to us!

I've noticed that on the lake too; we'd got to a place where there was nobody anchored - and soon there would be several boats anchored around us. We'd pull anchor and move - and they would follow us!

Danged if I know why.

Had that with my service truck. I would park at the very end on the parking lot. So my truck would not be in the way of customers. Come out to my truck and find cars all around it.

Lately for me Sumbody always poking along when I come up to a 3rd Gear stop sign and I have To Come to A complete STOP with a FULL lo9ad ,Then I have Lug the Load out on the road and hope someone don't top the hill doin 80 mph, with me sittin in their road bulldogging it up to 2nd gear , my TRAFFIC Jam with all fields planted and growin , I have limited space for shade tree repairs ,, Got Em All fingered off on the loop driveway waitin for their turn to get fixed ,, most time it s the same day I need to use it ,,

I hate parking in a parking lot for that very reason. Bought a new car a few years ago and first time we went to the store parked far away. Came out from shopping and there were cars on both sides and we had gotten our first dent from the car next to us. It made my blood boil. I agree with Allan, too many damn people.

There's an on ramp at a nearby I-80 interchange that I use almost daily. Both eastbound lanes can be completely clear, but every time I come down the ramp, there is ALWAYS an 18-wheeler in the right lane where I want to merge.

Never have figured it out.

Billy,
You are driving too slow on your BEER run, just like me.

I have the same problem here, wrap up work for the week and take a little cruise to the country store around 4 miles away on a Saturday night. Even take the back roads. 45mph is too slow on the pavement I have learned. But if I take gravel it goes by the in-laws house. hmm. I am fairly rural too.

But when you get nice straight square miles and pavement kids like to drive fast, I use to be one of them.

I know why. There are people that will park next to a single car because they know that the people park there for that very reason. They get a kick out of it. I know people that do that. What really gripes me is that people will park farther to right in a parking spot so they can easily get out of their car, but don't worry about the one they block out. In that case my door might accidentally rub against their car. Note I said accidentally.

I park out in BFE because I can walk in and be to the door faster than the guy who followed me in and rode around looking for a closer spot. And it's less people walking by my truck.

And apparently no one looks who they are parked beside, because I have come out to find some really nice cars parked beside the Amigo.

Would you park beside this? About 4 owners before me it hit a cow.

We're magnets. I had to laff this spring, My daughter rows for the University Of Iowa anyway the wife and I are way early to a meet, only people there, it was a long drive for us and we didn't want to be late. We picked out a spot to set the lawn chairs and cooler for a long afternoon of rowing and by the time the races started we were totally surrounded. It was hard to go to the porta-potties thru all the rest of the people. The sad part was there was plenty of open shore-line that nobody was using. Go figure.

Reminds me of the old Saturday morning cartoons. Remember when one of the characters would come to an intersection, clear both ways, and when he set foot in the intersection would be hit by a semi ?

Rick. I looked up one time on the back road. Had a a UPS,Fed Ex,two oil field tanker trucks and three pick ups behind me. Pulled over to let them pass. Got back on the road. One mile later had another line of cars and trucks behind me. When I turned off on another road. Three of them turned with me.

All I want is to have a nice quiet drive. Alone with my BEER.

My summer ride is my 1956 M38a1 Army Jeep. With 5.38 axles, it cruises nicely at about 35mph. Doesn't make any difference where I go, I stack 'em up behind me. Dirt roads, paved, doesn't make any difference.

(quoted from post at 12:07:04 06/23/13) I know why. There are people that will park next to a single car because they know that the people park there for that very reason. They get a kick out of it. Kinda related. Last week, I pulled into a parking space at a strip mall that had no cars on either side and the spot facing it empty with a car on one side and none on the other. Pretty wide open lot. I simply pulled ahead to the empty spot across from where I pulled in and the guy in the car next to me started blowing his horn. I got out (plenty of room on his side to completely open my door) and he was yelling at me thru the closed window.

I said "excuse me" as I couldn't understand him, he rolled down his window and said "there's a reason that's illegal". He was boiling mad. He was getting ready to back out of his spot and continued to rant. Finally, I told him that my actions had no impact on him and "have a nice day". I've asked several people and nobody has heard that it was illegal. Some municipalities have signs against backing into a spot in PUBLIC LOTS, but this was a private lot.

I could see where a problem might occur if someone was trying to get into that spot from the other lane, but there was no one in sight.

Any comments on the legality of that or if you guys do the same? I know I'll do it at HD or Lowe's when I'm driving my stick p/u and it's not anywhere close to the entrances.

BTW, it does remind me of the jerks who park in the loading area of HD while they shop, then walk out with a small bag. If I'm going to load stuff, I'll park in the lot, then move my truck if I've got too much stuff to push across the lot, which is infrequent. Just last week, I was pushing a cart full of 4x4's, 2x4
s, mortar, tile and the cashier asked if I needed help. I smiled, said "no thanks" and walked out. She evidently sent a kid out who came up as I was pushing the cart and asked again if I needed help. I smiled and told him" no thanks, if I can't load this stuff myself, I shouldn't be buying it". I guess it was my white hair that made them nervous and they didn't want an old fart dying in the parking lot of a heart attack.
