O.T. Dust control

Could you tell me what you put on your gravel/dirt road to control dust. The county brines it twice a season, and it lasts about 2 weeks. Would chloride pellets work. Any suggestions appreciated.

They chloride mine twice - middle of May and middle of June. They won't grade it after that. The maintainer came down the road this last week but pulled up the blade in front of the farm. He better - I pay $1.10 per foot for them to spray it each year!

First year it is just so-so, but after that it is about like blacktop.

You could buy the flakes they mix for saltwater in tires and spray that down with a cheap-o sprayer. It would work just as good. It just needs the salt to draw moisture toward the dirt.

We put down 10 ton per mile of Anhydrous CaCL (Calcium Chloride) mini pellets. We use a product called Wet Water to dilute them right on the road surface and then blade it back and forth to mix it all up and then lay it out. Its a sloppy mess for a day but after that hard and dust free. Just like pavement. If you keep it moist it will last a long time.

Around here there aren't many dirt roads the ones that are get brine from the gas wells. In Wisconsin they get the whey from cheese factories.
