New Holland 644 baler hydraulic safety

I have recently purchased a New Holland 644 round baler. This is a baler I have used before and it works great, I am a bit worried about the hydraulic safety catch, or latch that keeps the back door from falling when it is in the raised position. How safe is this really? Can this safety keep the door open if a hydraulic hose bursts? or if an o ring fails within a cylinder? I would feel much safer with some kind of mechanical safety and am kinda thinking about making one for this baler.

Any ideas on the reliability of the current hydraulic safety?

The 640 and 644 have top cylinder pins(welded to the gate) that are known to fail, in which case, any stops become useless, so inspect that area well for weld failure. The idea of a hydraulic safety stop just seems stupid. The purpose of a stop is to protect you from a hydraulic failure, and despite the fact that the valve is near the cylinder, a failure is still possible. A mechanical stop is still the best.
