Cut a few acres, it's raining

I managed to cut a few acres last night, and even took an oil bath when the hose off the pump blew. I was able to fix that as we had a spare in the shed that we never got around to replacing it with.

When I was almost done I was cutting the back swath along the woods and I plugged up on a few sticks. While getting it cleared out I noticed one of the bearings on the pitman drive was hot to the touch so I'll have to see about replacing that.

It's raining pretty good now, so I'll probably have a good chance to do it. Otherwise I might be cutting with our smaller machine when I can get back out there.

Not rubbing it in or anything, but I cut my 1.8 acres of bromegrass Sunday and the young guy I gave it to baled the first of it on Tues evening, but it was a little tough so he finished it up on Wednesday. It's VERY rare for us to get first crop hay up in three days without rain. I cut and raked it just for the fun of it and he came and baled it. He's one happy camper. Jim
The waterway hay was only accesable by driving between the 30" corn rows and the dually barely fit.

He stacked them and I drove the pickup and threw, um lugged the bales up to him. I'm not young and I'm out of shape. He's a trucker and admits he's out of shape too but he could handle the bales a lot better than me. After lugging those bales my bum bone-on-bone knee felt better and has been feeling great ever since. Go figure!

I took this silhouette shot just because it looked like a good photo opportunity. The right side headlight isn't working but a good whack with the palm of the hand gets it going. LOL

Yeah, 20% chance late afternoon turned into an inch plus and still raining. Two trailer loads are in the barn but maybe another 200-300 bales layin out and half or less of the 27 acres is baled. Gonna be a mess.

We finished baling what we had on the ground last night about 9:00 we got lucky. Only about 6ac to go.

I hope that big hole I am digging at Appleton east HS is not full of water!

is that an 88 and a 46?
loaded a lot of hay behind a 46 pulled by an 88, 1650,1755
always had the governor kicking on the 88

It's a 46 owned by him pulled by an 88 owned by me. I ran it just a bit and it was a LOT different from the days when I ran a 730 Deere gasser on a 24T baler. That Oliver is snappy and agile. Need I say more? Jim

Is that the half sway bar cycle drive on that one like my 1120? I had to change those four little bearings last week. $49.99 each!

I had another 10 acres disced light last night, planned to hit it deep with the field cultivator and get some more silage corn planted today, but by the time I got done planting in the wet spots in other fields at 2 o'clock the radar looked like we were going to get slammed,so I sprayed instead. Then the storm split, went either side of us and died out. Not much doubt in my mind that it'll rain overnight or tomorrow before I can get back at it.

Unloaded two loads of hay into the barn, baled another load and loaded it today before 3pm => SINGLE HANDEDLY. It's under tarp right now, thought we were going to get rain this afternoon/evening. Between the lake and the storms passing south, we lucked out. Looking forward, weather reports are for 30 to 50% most of the week. Want to get more hay down as soon as it's safe.

rrlund - I've got something you gotta see, Can hardly wait to try it out on the next field.

Don-WI,

Ah-hah! It's your fault it started raining again. :)

We made it 4 whole days without rain here! That is the longest stretch of sun since I can't remember when. BUT got drenched yesterday, last night, predicted for today... and looks like rain for a week to come.

I don't think so. It uses 2 ball bearings, one on each crank for either pitman. I replaced the top one last year, but couldn't get it apart to replace the bottom one, and was under the gun to get it together and drop some hay.

This year I gave it a few good pops from a 5' pry bar, and then it lifted right out from it's tapered socket. They also give you 2 holes to pound a punch through the crank to pound the bearing off the press fit shaft.
