tractor mounted pushblades

buck 520

I am considering buying a 68 propane 4020 on lp
the tractor has 15.5-38 rice and cane tires on it and a 8' amco push blade.
is this tractor blade combo going to be a usefull piece of equipment for shaping up the place with or is it better to scrap the blade and just have a good tractor?
I tried to post pics of the tractor but for some reason have trouble posting them
Id love to hear from folks that have used these

I saw a post on here some time back about a pushblade on a big 4-wheel drive. I remember the comment "it is not a dozer" I would think that the blade work would be hard on the tractor.

The push blade has its purposes and if used properly, can be a very useful tool, but it does not replace a crawler tractor made for that purpose.

we sold Waldon dozers in the 60's-70's they were great for moving snow and dirt, yes they were not a crawler dozer but you could do a lot of work with one, I still have three dozers for tractors love them cnt

buck520, There has be more Corn Silage pushed and packed in trench silos with just that combo than can be counted. As other have said.... No it is not a Dozer but light Soil, Snow moving and the like it is handier than a pocket on a shirt.
Hope this helps.

There were a lot of LP gas 4020"s with blades in the cane fields and they did a good job, the 4020 was real popular to put a blade on because of the powershift. I have a blade on a case 970 and it also does a good job under brushing and piling, it may not be a crawler tractor but it can still do a lot of work because those old tractors are heavy enough to handle the blade.

I'd imagine it is just a straight blade and without a 6 way features it will be pretty hard to shape up much dirt.
But those 4020's do push good as we have a 158 loader on ours and in shale where I could get good traction and a new heavy cutting edge I was peeling it out as good as a 450 case dozer.I was even leaving black marks behind me from the tires.

I'd keep the blade. They are so handy on the farm I have 2, both old ones but they will move a tremendous amount of snow, dirt, trees, whatever you want. Ihave a heavy old Leon 7 foot on the 730 Case and I'm not scared of breaking anything on that combination. Made up a brush guard for the front of the tractor to protect the grille from branches.
The light duty Cancade 8 foot on my 2090 Case is way light for that size tractor but I have not crumpled it up yet.

And the 730 does a nice job smoothing dirt and gravel using the blade in reverse.

This is ours. Early 4020, JD blade we have had for years. That is the third tractor we have had it on. Use it mostly for fine grading.
