Dang Kids.............

The 23 year old brother of a lifelong buddy of our daughter's was killed in a one-car accident 4:30am Sunday morning. (Father's Day)

The details are now getting out. Here's the scene: two guys and a gal in a car going down a gravel road. The gal was belted in, sober, and driving. The two guys were drunk, had the windows rolled down, and were sitting on the window sills with their heads and shoulders outside the car. This unbalanced the car to where the gal driving lost control in the gravel and rolled the car.

Of course, the guys were thrown out and the car rolled over them. The guy that survived is in the hospital in critical condition. The gal got banged up a bit, but wasn't hospitalized.

Even though it was the guys' own fault, think of the guilt that poor gal will carry. I did a few stupid things in my day, but nothing that came close to that scene.

Prayers for her and all of the families Goose.
Maybe God (and luck) really does favor the foolish.
If it weren't for angels that fly fast, I wouldn't be here.
Now I watch as my grandkids get there and I cringe just remembering.

Like Royse, I should have been dead a dozen times before I turned 25. i've done what those boys did, and lots worse. Always figured the Lord was saving me for something special, but dang if I've figured out what yet.

One summer day a few years ago a car with a bunch of kids in it came by at a fair rate of speed. Oner kid was laying on the top of the car hanging onto the windows as it went by. A short time later it went by again with a different idiot on top. I called the cops to report it but I never saw them show up.

I feel sorry for all the families involved. I often wondered what they are doing at 4-5 AM out driving around??? I never was out at that time of night/morning unless it was going to or coming home from work.

Any of my kids that where still at home at that age had to be home by 1 am, unless work/school related. I locked the doors at that time. The one boy had to sleep in his car twice before he got the message.

Yea,I can't figure what's got into kids. A favorite safe game we played was with teams of 2,one horse back and other on foot at end of a rope tethered to saddle horn. Object was useing momentum of horse while holding rope to see who could broad jump fartherest. Can't recall name of the movie in late 50s that introduced the "chicken run". Kid on rival basketball team challenged me to chicken run on our motorcycles. Set it up for following Saturday night mid way of towns. We rigged a light at end of a 2x2 board and 2 boys in bed holding light several feet out beside truck. After we met and tried bluffing oneanother,we each went oppisite directions to put about 2 miles between us. No lights on truck other than one at end of stick. No lights on my cycle following truck for sound effect as we started toward oneanother at agreed 30 mph. Boys started slowly raiseing light when we were about 150 yards apart. All turned out well and everybody including those from rival school had a big laugh afterwards listening to ol boy tell what went through his mind. Never crossed our mind that he could swerve into the unlit truck.
It must be true sombody watchs over fools that don't have brains to watch out for themselves,

"This unbalanced the car to where the gal driving lost control in the gravel and rolled the car." Huh? Undoubtably that's what happened, since you can't make stuff like this up. But I have a hard time believing the car was going straight down the road at a safe and prudent speed.

Been a few kids killed here this summer riding on the roofs of cars on the highway while drinking. The rage a few years ago that got some people killed was ghost riding, ie climbing out of the drivers seat out hte window onto the hood and letting the car coast.

Stupid game down here one year. Was who could take a certain corner at the highest speed. One day four of them didn't make it.They had to cut the car off the tree.

I think the mistake we've made is stopping the kids from doing the more benign stupid stuff where the chance of serious injury or death is pretty slim.

By doing that we've driven them to finding riskier and stupider ways to find their thrills, so the injuries and deaths are more traumatic and horrific.

Fact of the matter is we will never stop kids from being kids, and yeah, a 23 year old is still a kid.

"a 23 year is old is still a kid"? Neighbor hays and runs cows, usually runs by himself since with 22 year old kid is too busy playing golf and his wife is too busy chasing the kid....but after all as the neighbor says...your only a kid once. The year I turned 23 I had been married for 3 years and closed on a farm....

Unfortunate accident. Two people hanging out the window would not unbalance the car enough to loose control unless it was a golf cart.

More likely, someone was going too fast, swerving on the loose gravel and a back accident was the result.

As others have stated, I did some real dumb things too, got lucky more than once.
