using chains on my mf-65

I"m a greene when it comes to using these big tractors. what is the protocol for using tractor chains for the rear on my mf-65? will they plow snow on a flat driveway(800"long)? I have a private drive(100" is blacktop) & chains are a killer to the blacktop

I'm not entirely sure I understand your question.

I have a 65 and I run loaded tires and bull chains on mine in the winter.

Can you plow without them? Yes. If it's a flat driveway and you're not pushing huge amounts of snow you certainly can.

I use chains because my driveway is on a hill. I also can get up to 3 feet overnight, not often but it happens.

If you get ice, you'll want chains. Chains will do a markedly better job than no chains, but the trade off is the lack of damage to your blacktop.

I've plowed our municipality roads with mine and others like it with chains and never hurt the asphalt at all, it's pretty resilient when it's cold.

It might help to know what area you're in and how much snow you're talking about pushing. The other factor is going to be the quality of your paved driveway. If you're plowing on something as thin as 2" of blacktop, and you don't have a solid frost base under it, you might be looking at trouble.

I use a 116hp John Deere 4320 to plow my and most of my neighbors driveways. One drive has blacktop and boy do I need chains on it. The snow packs just enough under the tires to really ice it up. I have better luck without chains on the gravel drives until the base of packed snow covers up the stone. After 10 years plowing I can't say I see any wear on the blacktop.

You just have to be careful not to sit and spin chewing up the drive.

Tractor tires are helpless on hard pack snow
& ice.. When you get a ice pack on your drive
then use the chains....

Kind of depends on how aggressive the chains are.

My Dad didn't like the aggressive chains available years ago so he made a set of chains that were not as aggressive and wouldn't tear up whatever surface we were on. They were more like a set of heavy truck chains that aggressive tractor chains.

You will want to hang around on the massey forum, click on the grey bar above.
Your 65- TTBOMK?? as they say... has a 'diff lock' atleast my 65 and MF30 version does, aswell as others that size... that and chains you might as well have a tank.
Yeah, my town don't like chains unless a blizzard is such that they haven't plowed yet. Your driveway is your propery, but the white scratches don't go away soon... I hate winter, so I don't care...
Really, you need to deal with the other 700 feet, so don't let chain scratches get in the way of letting a fire engine get close to your home.

tioga,pa is my location & we dont get alot of snow like we did in the 70"s. we get snow in the inches not by the feet like the old days.
