Lawn mower lift capacity

My Dad needs a lawn mower lift for his John Deere 445 all-wheel-steer. A tractor site says it weighs between 815 to 910 lbs. Northern has one with 400 lbs capacity. Is that big enough to handle his mower and be safe? Tractor Supply has a 500 lbs capacity, but I like the safty latch on Northern's better. Thanks.

dlbuck, just for a little clarification, are you going to try and lift the whole lawnmower (both front and rear) or just either the front or rear? Below is a link for a heavy duty type lift, up to 700#'s Hope it helps. If it's just for the front lift, it is always safer to go a little heavier and stronger for rating capacity.

I have one of those cheapy trailers with the doughnut tires on it. I load the mower on it and now have my mower about 18" off the ground. works good for me and I got the trailer for almost nothing.

We just want to pick the front up to change blades and clean the deck. They both look about the same quality, there is a $80.00 price difference. Buying it for a Father's Day present. Just wondering what the front end weight would be and if the ratings for weight are accurate. Don't want him to have problems with a present or get hurt.
