the big storm

Friends in Newark say not as bad as last summer, but it sure looks bad on radar right now. Covering the whole state and just about to blow in here any minute (Caldwell).

Drive safely, not much wind with it, but looks like a toad strangler, with rain most of the morning ahead. There won't be any haying in Ohio this weekend that's for sure.
Now if I could get back to sleep...4am....guess I got all day for that, what else can we do with this weather?

I wish it would have wiped my place right off the map. I would have sold the land and got the h3ll out of here. Instead I got more F-ing flooding rain that I didn't need.

I remember the 90s, I understand what you are going through and how you feel.

I am in a very skinny band of southern MN that is doing ok, too wet by a lot north of us, and just terrible disaster south of us.

We have odd weather, but I won't complain.

What many of you are dealing with just sucks the sap out of a person. The constant battle against mud. Wrecks stuff, keep trying to no good, weeds keep growing, crop doesn't.

It turns around, but that doesn't make today seem any better.

Ya,I've been thinking back to other years similar to this. I thought I had saved a newspaper with my picture in it when I was interviewed about the wet June we were having, but it must have gotten tossed. I wanted to know what year that was. Big difference that year was that we were getting desperate dry before it set in raining and the corn was all in and up. Another year, about 30 years ago,I started planting corn June 6th,got stuck almost every day for a week, but it got dryer every day and I got all but 20 acres in. I got my hay up and planted the last 20 acres of silage corn July 8th. This year is just over the top. I figured I could get going again today. Had a load of fertilizer delivered, was just waiting for that rain to pass. Every TV station said it would dive south of us and at most we'd get a few tenths. Well....it trained right over me from 4pm yesterday until 5am today. Forecast is for rain again Saturday night,Sunday and Monday.

I've always heard it said that a dry year will hurt you,a wet year will ruin you. It's probably going to happen. This could very well be my last year. If I do get any silage corn in,I'll be filling silo when I should be picking corn, then be picking corn in the snow,so I won't get any stalks baled.

I'm afraid I might have to stay off here the rest of the day too. I'm pretty short tempered from not sleeping all night. I just layed there seething all night listening to it rain.

Best I try to get a nap before my heart gives up and stops.

You got our rain. Yesterday the weathermen talked a big rain and it certainly was windy and a few ominous clouds but turned out to be all bluster. Yard is starting to get a little dry but still green, however the farmers that recently tilled under the weeds and planted beans sure would have welcomed any rain. No- tilled beans in Mid-May this year which everyone claims saves moisture, so if it does turn dry we will test that theory.

yep, there was lost of damage around our place in northern Union county, our neighbors 2 roads back got their huge barn blown down and the chicken farm feed mill across the road got damaged. they have even been talking about it on 610 wtvn. luckily we didn't get anything damaged and my cousin down the road didn't get anything either and both of use were right in the path of the storm. over east of Essex there was part of a barn blown down and the parts had landed on a tractor and planter

We were trying to plant beans yesterday in that rainy situation over here by ashley. We got about 20 acres out of 30 done and then got dumped on all night. I was also up all night listening to the rain just pounding on the roof all night. Now we have drowned out beans that were planted in may and drowned out beans that were planted in june. I would imagine if we get the last of it done it will get drowned out too. This state is just about the most miserable place to try to farm. I believe it could easily send a guy to an early grave. I told dad yesterday I don't think I've had one day farming in this area when I haven't gotten rained on ever. We can't even leave a trailer with seed on it outside for any length of time around here because it will get wet. It's beyond ridiculous trying to farm in Michigan. Now I know why most of my relatives are dead, because it's better than trying to earn an honest living around here.
