On this JD 410 C Backhoe there is metal that covers the teeth on the dipper bucket. It is so that the teeth to not dig into the dirt. They are bolted on , but I can't get them out--like a screw with a screw driver head.
In our very hard clay ground I need to use the teeth.
What is the purpose of this add on and any ideas of getimg them off??? The part is hammered on over the teeth with a screw inserted also.
thank you

A lot of the backhoes here in Florida have this added to the bucket. We don't need the teeth that much here in this sandy soil. A good operator can cut to grade with the bucket with a straight cutting edge I did it it last Saturday with a little Cat backhoe putting in a drain field on a charity project. Unfortunately I'm not as good at it as I used to be and the other guys had to do some shovel work to clean up my hole. I sure caught heck about that. If the cutting edge has been on there very long you are probably going to have to cut it off and clean the teeth up with a grinder

We used them a lot when diging ditch for footings. A good operator eliminated a lot of manual trimming and leveling. The buckets would hold a lot more agraget when bedding pipe also. Your plate may be comercially built and fastened on the tooth shanks with removable pins which would resemble a screw slot on the end, that you drive out with a punch. If that is the case, you will have to buy teeth so you dont ruin the tooth shanks on the bucket. We just welded peices of old cutting edge off a dozer or the like onto the bottom of the teeth and lopped the plate of with a torch if necessary. We also sometimes used the plates to dig open ditching, but a wider ditch bucket was much faster than a digging bucket and would dump out in sticky ground.
