Corn/Pellet finished. Shorthorn/Pinz/Red angus cross. 12-13 months old. Hanging wieghts avg 633#. Been charging a flat $2/# hanging. Too low?

I charge current live market weight plus 10 cents, I deliver to locker and customer pays kill charge and processing. I'd say your a tad low given current live prices and what it cost finished in the store.

Just sold 5 steers. Grain Feed 14 months old, they averaged 800 lbs hanging. I got 2.25 per lb for hang wt. and they pay the processing. I deliver them live to the packing house. I just raised it from 2.00 and got no complants. The same people plus some come back every year to buy.

I sell live weight, but at $1.20 live weight, should be $2.64 hanging. That's 220% of live weight if I did the arithmetic right.

Just bought a half for $1.93 + processing. Farmer raised and he kept the other half.

Casey: That is the fair way to do it. I buy on the hoof, pay charges, get the remaining beef, select the cuts and packaging I want.
Fair deal.

Last fall I charged $2.75/lb hanging and I pay the processing and usually deliver. Don't think I'm making much at that price with feeders being $1.40/lb, corn at $6 and hay at $7/ bale. Sell to friends and family only, and have a waiting list.
