Need some help on amount and type of feed. I just sold my calf crop and kept 2 heifers for eventual replacements. Heifers are out of Angus cows and Maine/Angus bull. They are about 190-195 days old, weigh about 600 lbs., just off mother cows, and in a small pen. I only have 2 feeds on farm right now; one is 10% All Stock Sweet Feed (donkey, mule, horse, and cattle)and other is 20% High Energy Breeder Cubes. "They have been getting a little of both these while still on cows. I am also giving free choice hay, some coastal, some alfalfa, and most alfalfa mix. Plan to have them in pen for about 3 weeks, then move to separate (away from cows) pasture for about 2 months, then back to main pasture with cows.
Question:
1. while in pen, what kind of feed and how many lbs per day per head should they get.
2. During the 2 months in separate coastal pasture, what kind of feed and how much.
Thanks,
Tom
