Nitrates and Nitrogen....

The last few years we have planted a lot of 18" spruce trees around the place. We water them mostly from a well that has around 46 ppm nitrates. (No, we do not drink the water)We haul water to them couple times a week in this dry spell. We seem to lose some now and then, could the high nitrate content of the water be suppling too much nitrogen to them, I'm guessing each tree gets 20 gallons a week or so.
Thanks for any info. Funtwohunt

Probably not. Using fertilizer with Nitrogen on the trees would overshadow that tiny amount radically. I would either ask a tree specialist at a reputable landscaping firm or county conservation agency, or do research on soil types, diseases, and PH values associated with the trees. Jim

I have lost small spruce because of over watering. That may be your problem, twice a week may be too much.
