Hi guys need some help! I found a 2 cylinder maytag motor. It is loose and seems to have compression. Otherwise unknown condition, it can be purchased for $120.00. Is that even close to the mark? Thanks in Advance Gary

Make sure the fuel mixer and its weak springs are there. The points are under a plate on the flywheel Clean them and adjust (spec is on the plate (IIRC) Pull the plugs and put some 2 stroke oil in the spark plug holes and spin it(Pedal I assume)with one of them on the wire, and the other wire grounded, to see if it has spark.
Mix should be 25:1. Jim

The intake air is sucked into the crankcase through a carb like device that uses atmospheric air pressure to open a disc valve this slight increase in vacuum pulls fuel up out of the base into that carb like device. The spring that closes that air disc is important in that it is subject to rusting away. The mixture adjustment is a lever/pointer near the base of the carb like device.
They are hit and miss the governor controls the spark only allowing raw fuel to pass through the engine probably 30% of the time when not loaded. Pow---------Pow----------Pow Probably in the top ten worst engines for pollution per HP. Fun though I have a single and hav used it for several early years transportation experiments. Jim

The weak spring would be the one in the fuel pick up tube located in the fuel tank. The end of the fuel pick up will unscrew and you can access the spring and associated parts. There may be a check ball or flat brass plate ground flat on one side in there. Don't remember if there are springs behind the flywheel. Probably a video on YouTube if you look.

Unlike the single, the twin is not hit and miss governed, and the fuel system is a little different than the single, the mixture is controlled by the little pot metal cap on the intake. If it is a long base twin
$120 is a deal, if it has the square base with mounting "feet" on each corner it's still not a bad deal, if it has the pot metal base with mounting holes in the bottom or if it has the "top hanger" style mount $120 is probably plenty.
