Straightening bent axle

A friend has just gotten a replacement front axle for his 2940 with FWA from a salvage yard, and it has a little bend. It is too much to let it go. He is wondering weather or not to heat it before putting it in the press.

I'd also be inclined to say it's best replaced... Those shafts are case hardened, IIRC... so heat will alter that. If it's a case of having to use what you have I'd probably just try to press it cold and don't go any further than absolutely necessary.
The bigger question that comes to mind is how did it get bent to begin with? It would take some pretty serious torque to do that.

Definitely no heat. Depending on how it got bent you
may or may not be successful in straightening it. If
it bent in use it's probly junk. If it bent during
removal it will probly be ok.
