Greased the plow today.

I picked up 2 gallons of 140W gear old today so I could use it in my AC 160 mower. So I figured I'd use this to paint on it.

Went on thick. First time in 10 years this plow has been parked with any grease/oil on her.

Depending on how good or bad she looks when I go to use her next time, I may go out and buy actual gun grease next time.

I find after awhile grease, seems to wear off or something, but a generous coat of rustoleum, right after you are done and have cleaned off the moldboards, seems to last years, anything is better than nothing and bare steel. My single bottom is in violation right now, some surface rust, wore the pain off, plowed the garden, but have another patch to do, food plot, which will scour the rust right off.

I have heard that you can buy special paint for the plow that will stay on until you start plowing and then it magically disappears.

When I finish with my plow, I clean it up and spray black paint out of rattle can, it last till I plow again.
I store the plow outside and it doesn't rust.
Soon as I put it in the ground the paint slips off to revel shinny bottoms.

Hmmm... Well, if I'm not happy with how the grease looks come fall plowing (or after winter), then I will definitely give the paint a try.

I use whatever kind of spray paint I can find, right after I finish plowing. Fortunately for me my wife can never decide what color she needs so I have a big selection of colors. The plow alwys scours right up when I use it again.

(quoted from post at 15:11:14 06/09/13) Where did you find straight 140 gear oil? I haven't found any locally. Earl

Local farm and home store. They had several quart bottles of 85w-140, and a few 2 gallon jugs of straight 140w. I was quite pleased since I wanted the 140w for my AC 160 mower.
