Any of you Iowa residents ever hear of a town named Star in Marion County. My grandmother was supposedly born there but it doesn"t show up on any internet maps or the official Iowa state map.
Any relatives that would be able to know about this have long ago deceased. Grandmother's maiden name = Hart. Thanks for any info.

Sounds like the town of Elk,,Marion County,Kansas. The town was started in late 1800/early 1900.These days, not even a foundation remains....

Just have to think a little different when you google. ;)

STAR. A post office (1867-1902) in the southwestern part of section 14, Franklin Township. Marion

It was probably a tiny berg that popped up along a railroad line in the 1800's, and ceased to exist years ago. When I get home I'll check on my 1909 Iowa atlas.

probably a mining town of the past. remember hearing of star coal company. may google mining towns in marion county iowa.

Wife's grandmother was born near the town of Adrian in Jackson Co. Kansas If she had not spoke of being raised there, you would not of know a town existed. There is a cemetery 1/2 mile down the road.
