have a 1950 -60 farmall cub garden tractor. hydraulic arms have a jumping motion, any idea what may be the problem ? i have changed the pump already, but it didnt make any change ? thanks

There could be air in the system. If you take the fill plug off of the touch control block and cycle the hydraulics up and down several times, it might work its way out. You need to make sure you have enough fluid in there too.

mine did that when i got it too, i removed the hydraulic unit and put a kit in it, but what we discovered the real problem was is there is a screen tube in the bottom of the hydraulic unit it is accessible from the rear of the unit, [ the side facing the seat when its onthe tractor], nobody had cleaned this screen since 1949! guess they didnt know it was there i didnt either, but it was so blocked off with gunk that it was restricting the flow of fluid, making the lift arms jerk up and down

As long as it is a good hydraulic oil, you should be fine. Cub purists will shout that you need to use Case-IH Hytran. If you can find Hy-Tran compatible, that should be good enough.

If I remember correctly, the first Cub manuals called for 10wt motor oil.

If you're going to pull the unit it's best to give it a good cleanout and put in new orings and gaskets.

It's jumping because it's leaking internally.

Bouncing lift as mkirsch said is almost always an internal leak, usually the main cylinder packing. Due to the leak the lift settles a little, then the position control responds and lifts it back to the setting.
