Tractor Show Question

If you are a member of a tractor club, do you have to pay admission to go and work at the show? Our club is making members pay admission to the show to get in to work, and I don't think that is fair and was wondering if other tractor shows are like that. Members pay a yearly $20.00 membership fee and receive no benefits from it at all.

If you are working or exhibiting at a show there should be free access to the show. Charging a fee may result in fewer workers I would think. Most clubs do not charge the workers. Ron Mn.

No admission cost to members at all. Some of the shows I take tractors to require that you be a member for insurance purposes, but none charge admission for members or exhibitors. Membership is very in expensive on the order of $10 or so and is no problem.

Our club requires membership for displaying a tractor for insurance purposes, but no entry fee for exhibitors or workers.

I think that you need to take into account the whole finance picture. I used to pride myself in getting into the Ag fairs without paying when we had livestock there on display, but now I feel more of a need to help them keep going. Ag fairs are extremely dependent on good weather, and just as they can be highly profitable in good weather years, they can loose a lot in rainy years because most of their costs are the same weather people come or not. Your clubs show may have had some high expenses and many more guys than needed coming to help. Or there may have been a problem with guys signing up to work shifts and instead getting in free, then just hanging out talking and not doing obligatory work. If you ask you may find out a bout a situation that you are unfamiliar with.

Showcrop has a point in that there are two sides to every story but that being said , if finances are that tight then the club is shortlived anyway in my opinion. Our club publicizes it's financial statement to us every month and we are a relatively small club and aren't even remotely close to that "charge your members" area. If you start asking questions you are likely to meet some very defensive people. Your choice, either live with it , get out or get alected to the board and see what you can do.

We don't charge admission to anyone only ask for donations. That is amazing how that works...Have had a carload give $2.00 had other single persons give $20.00 Had one guy stop and leave more money on the way out, said show was better than he expected! Our yearly membership is $20.00 Gets you a newsletter 6 times ayear and a break on our annual meeting dinner and bus trip.

Our club does not charge if you bring equipment to the show or work. You must wear arm band and pay for a 4 wheeler to ride in.

If you have to pay to work, the yearly fee must be pretty low. I think too many tractor pullers' buddies get a free ride. I think no more than 2 should get in free with the tractor.

Thanks for the replies. President and VP say all other shows/clubs have the same rules as we do. I didn't think so. I think our local club and show is on the way out. Sad situation as I hate to see it end due to poor leadership decisions.

I have never heard of charging the exhibitors or workers. It would be a pretty small show around here with that policy. Some of the local clubs have freebies (hats, plaques, magnets, etc) and even serve lunch as a token thank you to exhibitors and workers.
