Bought a Golf Car

Early Sunday morning, I posted asking about golf cars, Thanks for the replys. Before Sunday school, I was telling my neighbor I was looking for a golf car. An older man there said he had one for sale, he had bought it for his wife, but she passed away 2 months ago, so he didn't need it. I told him I was interested, and went down to see him Monday afterwork. It's a Yahama with a 2 cycle gas motor with oil injection. He wanted $750, so I paid him and hauled it home. My wife likes it, bet the grandkids do too. Any tips or pointers about this unit? Chris

Make a habit of removing the key when the grandkids are there. Don't ask how I know. Looks good , you will love it! joe

Unplug the auto oil injector and mix the gas your self. They are known to have failures and you burn up the engine . Don't ask me how I know [dad it just stopped and won't go]. Other than that die hard machine. Looks to be a g56 model ser# is behind the rear bumper on the right side and it WILL go as fast in reverse as it does forward.

That's a G1 and bullet proof. I've had one for 20 years and can't kill it. The electrical connection will start to corrode on you over time and you'll chase them one at a time. Mostly on the red/power wire. The motor mounts will go over time and it'll set up a vibration which will start to break wires running to the coil on the engine housing. The vibration just worked the two pan head bolts holding the oil pump on and it'll leak oil. You could just pull off the oil pump and mix your gas/oil about 50/1. The unit runs on variable oiling from 50/1 to 150/1 depending on speed.
I beat the holy heck out of mine. I use it as a work vehicle around the house and I can't kill it. As I said, it's an 81 and I've had it since 90 or so. Frankly, I like it.

I have a Yamaha G1. As others have said, you cant kill it. I dont abuse mine but I load it will a fair amount of weight and use it a lot.

Here is a pic just after I put the 6 inch lift on it and 22 inch tires. I needed a little more clearance in the field and more traction the the regular golf cart tires have.

The bumper is off some Polaris 4 wheeler, I had to cut and weld to fit, as the original is in the way with the bigger tires.

Hey Chris, nice find! You are movin up in the world over there...I'm a tad jealous as my Cushman trickster gave up the ghost about two years ago.

Hey, Larry! Send me an e-mail, I might know where there is a cushman truckster if you are interested. Chris

Congratulations, Glad you took our advice and bought a gas unit. I have an old 1995 Yamaha G14 Gas, and it starts idles n runs slower n sweeter then much later EZ Go's and Club Cars my buddies own.

How the heck can they turn those giant tires???

Any golf cart I've ever rode in seems to be straining to turn the standard tires.

Chris, for $750, it looks like you got a good deal. Mkirsch, Like a tractor, the golf carts steer easier when the tires are rolling.
I've got an EZ-GO TXT with the Kawasaki 4 stroke and like it. I try to park mine where I don't have a lot of turning to do to get moving. I live in the hills and the 'lil' Kawasaki engine has plenty of torque to handle the terraces and bottoms on my place.

G1s are two strokes. They seem to have a lot more low end than the 4 stroke Yamahas I have been around. The kids will tie two sleds to the back and have a 100 lb kid on each sled and 3 or 4 more kids on the golf cart. They pull each other around on the grass all summer that way. Plenty of power, actually it goes a little faster that I care for when one of them bails off on the grass.
