Illinois Firearms Card?

Sat I tried to buy a box of 22 bird shot and when I checked out at Rural King the lady asked me for my firearm card. I asked her what that was and she said anyone buying ammo or guns in Illinois must have a firearm card. And I asked just for bird shot? Luckly the check out lady in the next aisle said since I was out of state I just needed to show a valid driver's license. I really think this is a rediculous law. The lady at Rural King said only Ilinois requires a firearm card.

Yes we have to have a F.O.I.D (Firearm Owner Identification) card just to own, buy, or use a gun or ammunition in Illinois.

So if I was from Illinois can I just travel to another state, like Indiana and buy my ammo, and/or a gun?

Yep. This is the sad truth of the matter.

I did not know there were that many sheep in Illinois. You guys need to get control of your State. What in the world is next for you?

murder capital of the country besides New York and they both have the strictest laws. No use describing how well it works or we get poofed.

A card sounds like a violation of the 2nd Amendment. Sounds like "infringement" to me. Time for a lawsuit. I'll bet you don't need an ID card to vote, probably not even a death certificate.

If your from Illinois, Wisconsin stores will still ask for the FOID card. Some Wisconsin auctions will not sell to Illinois residents because of this.

Had no problem buying ammo in Wisconsin, no one asked for the card.

In Illinois you even have to show the card when requesting to handle a gun your thinking of buying in a store such as Calbelas and Dicks.

If you go hunting, dont own a firearm, and use a gun owned by someone else you still need a FOID card.

Example of the past where newspapers applied for and got FOID cards under such names as Al Capone

Our F.O.I.D. cards do not permit us to use or carry guns. They're only to purchase the guns and the ammo. A 2 1/2 day Gun Safety Class is required to get a F.O.I.D. card. I think this law for the safety class went into effect in 1978 I believe.

On the bright side, they give them to just about anyone.
Even this scary looking guy!

My soon to be wife lived in Quincy, IL and I lived in Texas. We went to a store in Quincy to by some .38 special ammo and I asked her to buy since I was from out of state. She didn't have a FOID card, so clerk said she couldn't purchase it. I told him I was from Texas, showed my drivers license and he said no problem. That was in 1981 and is the foremost reason I will never live in that state. You can't even legally carry a loaded gun in a vehicle on your own property. Or even an unloaded gun out of a case in, on or touching a vehicle on your own property. Disgusting!

Yep just another law that is made to take away the rights given by the 2nd amendment. Just goes to show there are ways to take are rights and we do not see that it if happening. Time we the people open are eyes to what is going on in the U.S.A.

There is no state required safety course for a F.O.I.D application. A "Hunter Safety Course" is required to obtain a hunting license.

Our FOID isn't as expensive as Massachusetts Gun License: "Massachusetts residents 15 years and older who wish to possess, carry, transport firearms, ammunition and feeding devices are required to have a firearms license." "The fee for an FID card is $100.00 for people >18 years old and $25 for minors. It is valid for 6 years." Plus you have to pay for a "Training Course". The people in Mass. can thank Gov. Romney for signing their law.

you think that was bad

Californians who want to buy ammunition would have to submit personal information and a $50 fee for a background check by the state, under a bill passed by the Senate. The state Department of Justice would determine whether buyers have a criminal record, severe mental illness or a restraining order that would disqualify them from owning guns.

Y'all seem to think this is something new. Illinois has required the ID card since the 70's. In fact, with recent court decisions the situation for Illinois gun owners has actually been improving in recent years.

The Bill of Rights doesn't "give" people their rights. Our rights are not bestowed on us by gov't. The Constitution and Bill of Rights recognize our God given natural rights that no gov't can take from us......or so went the plan.

I left MA in 1966 because of stupid laws.Friend wanted to buy her husband an air rifle about 20 years ago.Needed A foid card to do it.When they passed the trigger lock law they had to put trigger locks on 2 muskets that were used in the revolution. They were on display in the state house. You cant order in reloading components in Mass.Town of Norfolk wanted to make it illegal to have outdoor clothes lines or pickups with lettering on the doors parked at home.My nephew has a construction business. He plows snow for the town.He used to keep the plow truck at home to get an early start.Neighbors complained about the plow truck. He had to park it a mile away in a business zone. Now he plows his street last .When they get a good storm the neighbors cant get out to the state road, are late for work. The MA state quarter depicts a Minute Man soldier with a musket in his hand.I laugh when I see one.

You can whine and complain all you want about firearms laws. But they do work. Look at Chicago the laws sure cleaned up that place.

I hadn't heard about that! Big surprise.... They like to keep us in the dark as much as possible.
Makes me glad I live so close to Oreegone, I can go buy my ammo there no questions(or sales tax!) asked!

New state slogan,,,"ILLINOIS,,,THE STATE OF CORRUPTION" This state has been controlled by corrupt Chicago politics since the days of Al Capone. In Illinois our politicians usually go to prison but some of the more cunning one go to the Whitehouse. Our FOID card law is a JOKE, How many criminals do you think applied for one???? To demonstrate how effective this FOID law is: A good friend of mine went to a gun show to sell a firearm he had. Someone at the show asked what he had and if he could take a look at it. When my friend handed the firearm to the potential buyer the buyer identified himself as a police officer and promptly arrested him for " Transferring a firearm to an individual without asking for proper ID (FOID)". Now this individual DID have a card, he was a POLICE officer, but my friend did not ASK him for his FOID and was arrested, there was no sale and no money ever changed hands!!! I wonder if this cunning Police officer would dare go into the CHICAGO HOOD and try the same thing, probably not because he could get shot!!!!!
