Car thief or hero?

Two men in a hurry, leave their car idling in front of a Burger King. An employee, seeing these two men, slips out the back, gets in the car and drives off a couple blocks. He walks back to work. The two gunman were arrested, shortly afterward. Do you think he will make EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH?

The employee probably should deny any knowledge of how the car was relocated to a safer and more secure parking spot by an unknown parking valet.

The employee's name was not included in the story. Policy is usually to not resist. So how his involvement is handled by management, is unknown.

With the large corporations like they are today the employee will more than likely be fired for leaving his work station during his work shift, driving with without proper corporate safety training, Driving with out OSHA approved safety restraints, and Daring to resist any action by a loyal customers as these robbers chose Burger King over Wendy's or McDonald's. Also if the robbers happen to be a minority then the employee will be labeled a racist for denying an employment opportunity for a down trodden minority.

The sad thing is that the things I talk about are not too far fetched in today's corporate world.

Read a few years ago that a Pizza delivery man, for one of the big chains.. got fired for defending himself with a pistol, when thugs tried to rob him... No shots fired from the gun..

Tough call, it worked this time. I would have just turned it off & pulled the keys if I could sneak out while the counter person kept the bad guys occupied.

Not that it would be a supersized loss (pardon the pun), but I suspect the guy might lose his job at Burger King.
If you want to read about another example of a "no good deed goes unpunished" type of store, Google "Autozone employee gets fired for pulling a gun on a robber" and see just these heroes get punished.

The pizza guy was a former co-worker of mine here in Iowa. Heath was delivering pizzas for Godfathers in Indianola part time. 2 guys tried to rob him, but he pulled his gun and they ran. Heath got fired for violating company policy (carrying a concealed weapon).

Would you want an employee to risk his life for a couple of hundred dollars? I"m kind of surprised the bandits didn"t carjack someone else in the parking lot.
