Returning to house for minor repairs to Vermeer 505I round baler, had bale in it. Hit a slight bump in driveway, broke stub axle off in the bub. Remainig stub wanted to spin in the hub when I tried to take axle nut off.I could see a little play in the nut and decided it was hanging on a burr probably at the cotterpin hole. Not interested in welding a nut on the end of the stub to hold it, was lucky and wedged the inside bearing against the dust shield with a screwdriver and hit the nut with an impact wrench and a 1 1/8 socket. Now I have to go pick up an axle in the morning. I have had to do this before on this baler, on the other side.

Could be, I guess. It looked like it had cracked earlier. Maybe it needed a bigger axle.

Atleast you got a start. Our hay is atleast 2 weeks behind. Normally we chop 1st crop during Memorial weekend (and bale what doesn't fit in the bag) but this year it's gonna be another week yet, probably 2.

Nobody has started yet, which is really odd. Other years the big guys just took a hit on 1st crop just to stay on schedual the rest of the summer. Must not have worked out so well in the long run...
