repairing starter nose?

What is the recommended repair for a Delco starter nose? Brazing or welding? Would nickel rod be needed or would 7018 work?

Unless it is some rare part I would replace it.

Given the welding questions I would recommend taking it to a qualified shop.

Worth a try with nickel rod. I'd clamp it real good to keep it from opening up and warping so you don't cause the bushing to bind up.

I've welded a few. V it out a little from the outside, clamp it good, then weld it on the inside first. That will help keep it from pulling and distorting as much as possible. Use Ni99 rod on AC, that works best for me. Most have been off just a bit and need a little work with a die grinder in the bushing to get the shaft to spin free, but you have little to loose. Try it, if it don't work you can still replace it.

My starter/generator/alternator, repair shop
has a catalog of starter nose"s, by make of
starter, and it has photos. I"d just order a replacement, unless it was ultra rare !
