Calving again

Last month I posted a question about our Brown Swiss that was starting to lactate and was wondering about when she might have her calf. Well, she still hasn't had it.

She has so much milk she's literally started leaking a little on Saturday. The last two days she's been laying around a lot but still doesn't appear to be in labor. I'm tempted to give her a shot of oxitocin to get her started. Some swelling in the rear but no discharge yet.

Calm down and let nature take its course.Ive induced labor a few times and it never turns out good.I rarely even pull a calf anymore.Apparently you have been checking her for milk for over a month now. That is a no no.The cow will make a plug in each teat to keep bacteria from getting in the udder.Do not break the seal/plug.Your cow will get real sloppy in the back and she will get sunken in around her tail head probably some mucos will come out and labor will begin.

Don't worry about your cow. We were supposed to be done calving the end of March. We had one three days ago and one yesterday afternoon. Momma will have it when the time is right.
