O/T Any tv repairmen

on this site? My 3 year old LG 50" Plasma went blank last nite. The red standby light now flashes real fast. Took off the back cover to look at capacitors and none are bulged out or showing signs of leaking. I do have line voltage going to the board and all of the fuses test good.

You may have tried this already--but if not: Unplug the unit from the wall for 2-3 minutes and then plug it back in. If that doesn"t help then there"s a more serious problem perhaps the internal power supply has gone south.

I hope you find your problem, but I'm not sure these newer HD tv's last all that long. We had a 46" Sony LCD that checked out last year after only about 3 years of service. When we replaced that I did one thing I usually don't do - I bought the extended warranty. You sure can't beat the picture though. Between the HD tv and my Direct TV with Tivo, it's like the wheel has been re-invented.

i think the lg's are made by samsung but i could be mistaken. if your standby led is flashing rapidly that may lead to a power management problem i believe. probably a capacitor issue in the power board, i think its a common issue with those lg and samsung tv's.

Thank for the replies. Yes, i tried the reset and capacitors are a common problem. There is probably 30 of those little buggers and they all look good. Also the light is not flashing a code, just a constant fast flash whenever tv is turned on.

A lot of problems nowadays get solved with the pull the plug,
wait a few minutes and put it back; computers and TV's

I have an IC brand LCD that I have had for about 10 years. The
input selector software is real slow but the TV worked fine.

However this year the sound quit. I have the sound routed to a
Bose box so I just moved the input from the TV to the back of
the satellite receiver and solved that problem.

When It croaks I'm going to chunk it and buy another. That's
what we do today, right? For what they cost today and how
many years they last, I'm not about to go into it. Not setup for it
and don't fix tv's as a sideline any more anyway.

Our 46 inch Mitsubishi got zapped by lightning last fall and I repaired it by replacing all the circuit boards one by one. It would not light up any power lights or anything. I was not getting voltage out of one section of the power supply. I replaced the power supply with the same results, then I installed the new tuner/processor board and the set powered up and came on. I got power supply, tuner, and interconnect board all for less than $200.00. These were refurbished boards. The power supply board was a real mess, The large filter caps all had holes punched in the tops from having other circuit boards stacked on top of them. I swapped the caps from the old board and also had to repair broken traces where the board was cracked. I used to repair tvs before flat panels came out and I went to Youtube and found a lot of help. I got the parts from ShopJimmy.com. This tv originally cost $2500.00, now you can get a bigger one(WallyWorld) for around $700.
