need some help on what company is the best to find tractor parts, and which ones usually keep them in stock, also bought a tractor from a guy was told all oils were full, ready to run, come to find out not so, ran my tractor about 3 hours with about 4 quarts of oil in my trans. and low and behold, it stopped working. what kind of damage might have i done to it, i didnt hear any loud noise it just stopped moving forward, i drained the oil that was in it, found no metal, used a magnet to make sure there were no pieces laying around the bottom, is there anything i should be looking for. its an 801 ford. thanks for your help. twiggy

with the few carrots of info you are stringing us along with. it's hard to say.
is this 801 tractor an 881 / 871 with an SOS tranny? a full powershifgt trans? with no oil.. it can't do much but set there.

was it instead a 4 or 5spd? in which case.. it should still be driving even with low oil in the trans.

the more info you give us.. the better we can help you.

also.. there is an actual FORD forum that this question would have been better on.

as for parts? depends on what you need. this site sells MANY parts that fit them old fords.

p[ost back a few DETAILS and we can help you.

sorry.. not even close... no cigar.

you can't just open the top lil drop down box that shows a couple of the most common models. you have to use the roll box below it that has ALL the models.
801 parts

sorry guys im new at this farming thing, and tractors are a whole new thing to me, so dont get furstrated with me, remember im a new student here. and i actually thought i was on the ford forum. its an 801 which i just figured that out by all the numbers i bought it thinking and being told it was a 4000. ford, select o speed. this is about all i know. i havnt really figured out any more about it. i was bruch cutting and it stopped moving forward, the pto and stopped as well. it is stuck in nuteral. so i was told to check the cable, as i was doing that, i removed the cover and checked other things, and noticed i didnt have any oil, or not enough. so i drained it. thats when i found i only had about 4 quarts. so i need to get the oil that goes in it, and the oil filter. not knowing where the best place to buy these products i came to you, asking for help. hoping someone would lead me in the right direction.

Stuck in neutral ain't the only place you're stuck it sounds like.Hopefully you can some fluid and find the leak and everything will work normally if not those are very expensive to repair most of the time.

i'd fill transmission with oil and see if it still works...if not you may be better off finding a different tractor if the sos went out...parts are difficult to find but not nearly as hard to find as someone that can rebuild a sos correctly.

If I were you I would visit the local New Holland Dealer. Hopefully you have one that is not too far away. They can look up and get you parts. Give you proper oil and probably free advice on quantity of oil and what other problems you may have. If previous owner did not care enough to check oil he may not have changed hydraulic filter either. That could be plugged. The Dealer could do what repairs you need if more problems show up.

Good Luck !

No matter WHAT somebody "TOLD YOU", you should
have checked ALL fluid levels before doing any
work, with a newly aqquired machine !
AND, if you didn't get an owners manual that tells where to look, and what proper levels are...the are helpful folks right here on Y/T
that could advise!
