I have a Timothy alfalfa mix with oats that has lamb squarer on
it what's the best way to get rid of lambsquater

Send the kids out to pull it- bring it home, and cook it for supper. Excellent greens.

Don't think any spray will get it, without killing the alfalfa.

Well that maybe true at low rates but it is useless on Lambsquarter. 2-4D does not kill Lamdsquater very well at all. It takes very high rates for a very limited kill. The higher rates will effect the alfalfa too.

He pretty much is stuck mowing it often enough to keep the lambsquarter from going to seed.

I sorta figured its in with oats hopefully I can get the oats the stuff only comes up with soil disturbance so ill see how it goes

Very tough to kill when it gets a little growth even with Roundup. Has a whole bunch of growing points that you have got to hit. Had some around the cattle pen. Both the cattle and pigs seemed to love it before it got tough and started setting seed. If feeding to cattle might not be that big of an issue if you cut it young. Horse hay buyers wouldn't agree. Certainly don't want it to set seed.

Very true. Once lambsquarters gets over about 3" tall it gets extremely hard to kill with anything, including Roundup. Butyrac will singe it but not kill it if it gets bigger. It is a weed you do not want to let get started if at all possible. Mike

I have used Synchrony for tall lambsquarter in beans, Don"t know if it would affect your hay. It is a very low rate herbicide.

I have had the same problem once with a spring seeding. I just mowed it, and the grass and timothy came back and crowded the lambs quarter out.

There's a difference in 2-4,d and 2-4db. I've found that 2-4db can sometimes offer more control than its cousin, 2-4d, with selectivity on legumes to boot. As always, I recommend reading the label, I don't deal with lambsquarter in my square of the country.
