Devon (pics)

When I was young, my mother would take us to the Devon Horse Show, in Devon Pennsylvania. As I have not been for some years, I decided to skip the Indy 500 and take the wife to the show. It was a good day, nice weather, windy, but nice. Devon, is known by the slogan, "Where Champions Meet". There are entries from nearly every state in the Union. I always enjoyed the four in hand, especially when the tootler blows the coach horn. Tootler in the first two pictures was the best. Most of the park drags, coaches, and carts are restored originals, some are 100 years old. Two were Studebakers. In the afternoon there was a junior hunter class. Thought I'd share some of these photos, enjoy.
Best Regards,
Charlie

Charlie, I took some horse photos at our last show over here, sorry I couldn't leave my stand for long enough to get them in the ring, but I did get some as they came back to undress the animals. I jsut didn't post as I thought no-one would be interested! Thanks for posting.
Sam

I'll bet you it was a better option than the 500 on tv, being a spectator at a long standing annual event like Devon, given the events, it had to be an enjoyable day.

Looks like rider 467's horse quit at a fence, didn't get thrown, and thats a good thing.

I used to hear the name "Devon" quite a bit growing up, and though I've been there, it was so long ago, young kid etc. The elders in my family are still involved with show riding, 2 are qualified judges and stewards, we've also conducted shows with 600+ exhibitors, lot of heritage and history with hunters and jumpers. Lot of preparation to put on a show like that.

The one person grooming, with bystanders looking on, sets a poor example in my opinion, being at an event, the likely breed of a TB, I always stand to one side of the path of those rear legs, he's in a position to get launched to the moon, just takes one fly or some other darned thing. I suppose there's a reason I've never been kicked, 'cause I avoid the close proximity of the back end of them regardless of what I was doing LOL ! One lousy dog or kid acting up, lot of things going on, better him than me in that photo LOL !

Cool you posted a shot of the arena drag, always some different and preferred, usually very expensive drag, I've done a lot of that, fussy, had better be flat and the fluff on top not to deep, actually a pain in the neck if the footing gets let go too long. Looked like great weather !

I went in 2009 when my son was showing (he brought horses from St Charles, IL). Probably the nicest horse show I've ever been to in 35 years of showing.
Devon does it up right for the exhibitors.
