Just got in from 3 hours of brushhoggin 6 foot tall ragweed. Get off the tractor and I hear what sounds like steam from radiator - front end of the tractor was loaded with these bugs they were falling off the grill. I 've seen a few around the house - they look like misquitoes on steroids - what are they?

thanks, I googled Crane Fly and they are apparently harmless - Despite their common names, as adults, crane flies do not prey on mosquitoes, nor do they bite humans. Some larval crane flies are predatory and may occasionally eat mosquito larvae.[3] Adult crane flies feed on nectar or they do not feed at all. Once they become adults, most crane fly species exist as adults only to mate and die.

Mayflys, we get covered up with them each May. They're harmless but annoying. Can't keep them out of the house when you open a door.

Crane flies for sure. All mayflies have tails, usually two, sometimes three depending on species. At rest, they hold their wings in a folded prayer manner. The larva are all aquatic insects. Trout love them at all stages. They have very cool names, like Hexigenia limbata, Isonychia, sulphers, based on color, or Hendricksons or tiny Tricos. Mayflies range in size from gnat to over two inches.
