Showed up on a new job site today to install 9 prehung oak doors! I checked the print and marked all the hinge sides and swing direction (into room, or out of room), scattered the jambs, OOPS! Print said 6'8", doors came 7'! Framer came back and spent almost 6 hours modifying 8 door openings-I had one done already!

To err is human, to admit it... never mind. Sounds like he had 2 bad days, one when he made the mistake and another one today fixing it.

If the print called for 6'8" doors, I would have consulted with the customer before installing them. While they will work, from now on they will have to purchase an odd size more expensive door if they need to change one.

Thats why a shop drawing is created and submitted for approval or a door schedule is on the prints, I have found that these thigns don't check themselves, often times its so simple and over looked, and sometimes its easier to fix the R.O. might be a days labor but at least its done. Hate when it happens.

I had a 57 unit mid rise, apt entry doors, were ordered and approved off the architectural prints, owner decided towards the end to add a layer of underlayment over the concrete plank, which also had a level coat and a flowable grout coat prior to that, was too much what he added and all 57 had to be modified or re-ordered, thats why an approved finish schedule is supposed to be created, unreal, same developer, his next PM, I left by then, on a 40 story job, they ended up with the wrong size windows, LOL, there are ways to avoid this, I usually mark RO's on drawings noting they are correct, any that are not, someone gets notified, anything that gets ordered has to get approval first and is checked against the drawings, A/E should do this when the drawings or product data is submitted but I always review them myself, and even then there are times when something gets past, not much but it is part of the game.
