portable printer for the truck

I have an HP 470, works off 110 or battery, with blue tooth connection. It is about the size of a loaf of bread, but does high quality work. I recommend it for a portable printer.

A few years ago I used a Cannon black or color in the truck.
Under $ 100. and about 1/2 the size of my laptop puter. Mine was 110 so I just used the converter, worked great. Oh-ya and cheap to refill the cartridge.

I have a printer/scanner in my truck for billing and I learned to just buy the cheapest one. No matter how much you spend they are not made to take the pounding of a truck. Buy a $50.00 one and figure on replacing it about every other year. There may be some kind of extra rugged ones out there, but for $25.00 a year it would be hard to justify the cost I think.

My day job is in law enforcement and we use computers and printers in our patrol cars 24-7. We have used about every brand you can think of and always had a problem with printers. We changed to a thermal printer. this is similar to what your grocery store receipt is. They are a little pricey but are compact and are really doing a great job. We purchased the Brother brand PocketJet 6 mobile printer. Being a Govt. agency we had to get quotes and found the best prices from bh photovideo. If you would like to look at their website just add dot com to the name. I am not in any way connected to these folks nor trying to generate sales for them. Just my 2 cents worth. The reason I know is because I was the procurement officer for these things. Good luck those darn things can be a large pain in the rear.

My experience has been similar to jon f mn. After buying a $300 portable that didn't work as well as I wanted it to, I bought a cheap HP for $4?.00, found a zipper bag large enough to put the printer with a roll of 1" foam around it in. Works great, am on my 4th year with it. Its 110, but it runs off a 12v plug in inverter. I may have been lucky, but at least it was luckier than I was with the portable!

Well, that whole thermal thing is SWELL, but for situations that require a hard copy to exist past about 90 days, HOW does that work out?

We had thermal printers in our Troop cars too for issuing tickets. They suck, not because they don't work, but because the print quality is terrible and because they fade in few weeks. I sued to have to print out the thermal and then a regular copy to be sure it would make it to court in a readable fashion. Leave it in the sun and it's a goner in a few days.
