Does anyone know which is better, The early vain pump with hydro control, or the later piston type pump? Also which one pumps more gals. per. min?

later piston pump is better.. hands down. can actually get parts to fix it without a mortgage.

psi and volume is functionaly equal

the piston pump is better and all the piston type pumps to 1964 are the same.

The answer would depend upon your definition of better.

Either is suitable for the intended purpose but the piston type pump is much more common and after market parts are readily available at modest prices.
