Stopped in the museum today. They had several tractors of each model on display. My favorite was the orchard. I did"nt know they made aftermarket diesel converstions for the Farmall M and W tractors back in the day. Here is a link to to their site on tractor history. The company is very much still in business.

How local are you to Hanover?

We are about half way between Gettysburg and New Oxford.

Every time I go past their museum I tell myself that I should stop, but always in too much of a hurry.

Bill,

Thanks for posting that info. I saw a couple of them at the 4-H Fair in Hamilton County, Indiana back in the early to mid-'50s. They were indeed a cool tractor....just looked STRONG AND TOUGH.

Same here always to busy. Saw an add in the merchandiser that they would be open today and i had errands to run so i made a point of stopping. We are outside G-burg also. I beleive they are open next saturday 9-3 as well.

Obviously you are a Merchandiser reader too. Amazes me that they still have a business with Craigslist and all the other similar outlets. Local paper can't justify printing daily anymore, going to be 3 days a week starting at the new year.

Almost always spend 15-20 minutes every Tuesday afternoon with the Merchandiser. Like to look at auction listings, equipment, autos, pretty much every page.

The conversion engine for the Farmall was a 3 cyl. diesel kit called the 6M,have one sitting in my shop.Sheppard was a little embarrassed of their hp.,hence none were ever Nebraska tested. They were still learning about how to make diesels perform back in those days,Sheppard thought it was by using very high compression ratios (22.1)and low squirt gun injection pressures. We now know that doesn't work.
One of the other things that killed Sheppards were, there was no dealer floor plan. All tractors were paid in full before they left they left the factory, plus they were pricey.Made it hard to compete with big boys in the 50's.
