My wife ruined my hat

I have several ball caps I wear. One of them was just getting broken in. It had the right amount of grease smuges, and dirt. With that I would be accepted in any small town coffee mill with the boys,(or girls) or be accepted in any tractor repair shop. Now I need to break it in all over, again, and hide it from my wife. Two of my best are in the washing machine now. Not sure if I'll recognize them (or if anyone will recognize me if I wear them) when they come out.

The problem isn't with the grease, it's with the odor...lots of women find the "scent" of stale sweat repugnant.

I wear a "railroad engineer's" cap a lot I can get about 5 years out of them washing them every other year or so. I get a fair number of comments about them. I call them farmer's hats because they are made of cotton so they absorb sweat better. So you don't have to stop and wipe your brow as often so you can get more done.

Thanks for the reminder-- my dad-in-law, an Allis Chalmers man, wore that style of cap. With some effort I could dig out a picture.

Was finishing up harvesting small grain variety test and breeding plots about 20 years ago at Clemson U and I asked the two friends helping if that was the last plot. I was driving the combine. They said yes. I took off my straw hat I had worn all harvest and tossed it in the combine. It went through the cylinder and straw walkers and out the back. One of them picked it up and handed it back to me with very little damage and I put it back on my head. Got a good laugh out of that.
