They don't break in the shed.

Late spring so I had plenty of time to get things ready. So I thought.

First day doing tillage work the steer hydraulic pump on my big tractor took a dump. This pump also pushes the oil to the transmission on the power shifting clutches.

Rained that night and they got it fixed in a couple of days. That was 3 weeks ago.

Not fun when you turn the steering wheel and the tractor comes to a quick stop.

First new pump leaked before it left the shop. Second pump leaked after 8 hours of use on Tueday while planting.

So while I was waiting for the last repair I decided to spray the corn I had planted. Batteries were dead on the spray tractor that was used just 2 days earlier.

Tuesday was not a good day.

Third pump made it through 16 hours of planting yesterday. 10 more hours today and then we can start on beans.

Hopefully things will go as good today as they did yesterday as it is suppose to start in on another rainy spell starting tonite.

And how is your spring going?

On a much smaller scale, the radiator on my TO-30 sprung a leak. Had to wait a week and missed some good working weather. Bought seed corn but had to order different plates. Hopefully, they will be here this week. Planted cow peas yesterday and had to stop twice to re-thread the sprocket chains on my JD 71s. And the mosquitoes make it miserable to be outside.

On the upside, I got a couple of gates mounted and covered with fence to keep the dogs off the road. Started planting the garden. And the fish are sure to start biting soon.

My fall planted Speltz failed, the corn ground is still too wet to touch, waiting on parts for the tiller and I'm fencing. Typical spring.

Well, at least the batteries are easily fixable, just takes money and time. Hydraulic pump failure is strange.

No problems with machinery here but I haven't started anything yet. Did have a wood router lose smoke and I had to get a new one which I haven't got cutting right yet. Cousin has a hot bearing on his Vermeer baler and has a lot of hay down. They were running two 9 foot disc mowers Monday and Tuesday.

Tough year to start in with a new to me planter, no time to test it or practice run, got it in early March, shed doors were iced shut until May.....

So lots of little delays, they add up.

Started the wife on chisel plowing the 40 acres of stalks the cattle were grazing, she drove 40 feet and the wheel fell off the chisel plow I got last fall.... Sat there all winter, just didnt know something was wrong....

So it goes, like you say, only breaks when you use it. Still having a fun time.

I thought I was the only one who had days like that. Bought a new to me planter, checked it out in the driveway and it worked just fine. Got to the field with the boxes full of seed and found why the previous owner sold it. All the drive dogs were wore to the point if it was empty it would work but the added stress of the seed in there made the dogs slip. A few hundred $ and a few days later and it was working again.

Finished corn yesterday. Might plug some beans in this afternoon when son gets home. The Precision planter monitor has been shutting down and rebooting constantly while on the go so right now I'm sitting here waiting for a loaner monitor to update so I can put it in the planter tractor. Then I have to sit there and wait for it to phase in with the row sensors. Gonna get the rest of the Treflan put down this afternoon so the rain can work it in for me. The 4650 has been my home away from home for the past week. Good luck with the rest of planting. Jim

Unless you change out every bit of hydraulic oil,
fluid, flush everything, including hoses, and remote implement cylinders, and replace filters,
dirt, and debris, and metallic particles from the
first failed pump, can soon wipe out a second, or
even a third pump.. Sometimes in minutes, certainly
within hours !
