My first time plowing (pics)

Thanks for the advice about cleaning up the plow guys. Switched up from a drill mounted wire cup brush to an angle grinder mounted one (a knob cup brush, to boot). Spent about 2 hours total between yesterday and today on it. Took it out and plowed with her. It was a bit wet, but we've got a week of rain rolling in, so I wanted to get it churned now.

Worked up and leveled out pretty well, except one spot where I had the traction boost set poorly and it just skimmed the surface and didn't really dig in. But for a garden plot, I am quite pleased.

I did have one pass where when I picked the plow up, the front end of the tractor started to come up instead. Not exactly a thrilling experience there, but I got it handled in short order.

Next time set the back of the plow deeper so back
bottom is cutting as deep as front bottom. You
should be pleased. That looks real nice but you can
do even better if you level the plow.

I've got the plow manual here at my desk, I'll have to read up on all the adjustments on it so things can go a bit smoother next time.

But are you saying it is nosed down too much in the front, or that it is off pitch from side to side?

(quoted from post at 21:14:07 05/14/13) In the picture it looks like it is nosed down to
much in the front. Looks OK side to side.
An AC plow will seek its own draft line (levelness) if the shares are not worn and the ground is not too hard. My dad always put the best share on the back to help suck it in the ground. It may not be level due to the traction booster setting. If it is the traction booster holding it out of the ground, try lengthening the beaming screw so it will not try to plow so deep.

Ah, I see what you mean now! It most definitely does not seem level. Good eye; thanks!

I actually was able to plow most of it without any traction booster, believe it or not. The frontmost share is definitely the most worn of all of them, for sure. Though it seems like it has been used well over the years, but not abused.

When I finish, and if all the rust is off, I hit it heavy with red spray paint primer, a coat or two. Then cover it up. Then she"s ready to go.

Yeah I need to grease her appropriately and put her up until winter now.

(quoted from post at 07:37:59 05/15/13) Thats some pretty nice soil with my red clay you'd of been about two days trying to get it disked down if you plowed this late in the year.

Well this soil is pretty clay filled and heavy, I think I just got lucky with the moisture in the soil that it worked up so nicely. But I know some people have what we call "gumbo" around here that they like to never get worked down no matter what.
