Social security website ?

I see that we no longer get the SSI statement in the mail anymore. I have heard that there is a SSI website to somehow log into. Have any of you guys done this yet? I am somewhat leery of logging in my SS number and all other info on a website.

I logged in a few weeks ago. It seemed secured to me. I will be 62 in a few months and was wondering what I was eligible for if I decide to draw on it. It was pretty easy to get through. They sent me a e-mail afterwords to make sure my account wasn't being hacked and I was aware of it being excessed. My wife is a couple of years older and she has had no problems on line the last couple of years.

Wile - I haven't tried it, but I got a letter yesterday with this web address for Soc. Security info:

Ya they want to try to do every thing by way of the internet or web. V.A. travel pay and any other such thing as of June 3rd will be that way. Just another way for the Gov to be able to poke into things if we want them to or not

SS said months ago that they were going to quit paper. When I got on the system, I signed up for direct delivery. Every 3rd Wed. of the month that sucker is in the bank and I don't have to fuss with it.

For a government entity, I found that the SSA was extremely well managed and helpful. When I signed up, I went online and setup an appointment with the local office. On the date and time I was at the office and didn't have to wait 5 minutes to be called.

The officer there had all my info on file in her computer including my DD......forgot the numbers, honorable discharge which I had lost. We talked, she walked me through it and that was that.

Same way with Medicare. Very well organized and helpful. Like the other day I wanted to see what they were doing with some claims of mine. I looked up the site and found directions to just where I wanted to go and got the info in short time. Great.

IRS too. Very polite and helpful. You treat them with respect and you get the same. Just human beings.

My 2c,
Mark

My wife signed up online with no problems and a couple of days later an nice lady called from ss and asked a couple of questions and answered a few of my wifes questions and then she stated when she would start receiving her ss by direct deposit.

I tried the SocialSecurity phone number, with nothing but VERY long waits. I can drive 38 miles each way to our nearest office, even without an appointment, and get served faster. Service at the local office has been excellent and I'm very happy with them. But I am also a bit concerned about putting SSN on the internet, and the local office has always been very helpful. I do have direct deposit, so it's easy.
