Someone asked a while back, I am not sure on which forum, about a light or a way to monitor power on an electric fence. I posted some pictures below of a device that we use, and it is very simple. An 18" T-8 flourescent tube with some wires soldered onto it.
Our fence loops around the pasture and returns to the barn, about 75 feet from where it starts. We hung it on a corner, between the last two sections of fence, instead of a jumper across the corner. You do not ground it, just hang it on a 'broken' section of the hot wire. and it will light up when the fence is energized as current passes through it.
If it was in the 'front end' of the fence, nearer the box, I don't know if you would lose some energy on the rest of the fence or not. I will bet '36 Coupe' will know. The idea came from "Farm Show" magazine.
