What can I do to pioson rats that have gotten in our chicken coop I will remove the chickens and clean the coop out .is there any GOOD rat pioson out their? Is there any thing I can mix up and pour down there holes?

Dad had a rat problem in his small workshop a few year's back. I got a 4# box of poison from the local farm & home store, can't remember the name, but was not a name brand. Put out about 3/4 of it in a large box so it would not get scattered around, and the next morning it was gone. Put out the remainder and non of it was ate, so it worked really good.

Cattle feeder friend of mine had a rat problem to around his feed bunks. Pulled one of their anhydrous ammonia tanks there and bled a little off in the rat holes with the hose from the tank. No more rats. chris

I am going to reply in the same way as many others did when I said I had a killdeer bird problem.

Oh, I love rats,, I love the little noises they make when they have food in there mouth. They are so cute. How dare anybody try and catch them and kill them.

Chunk bait. The chunks have a hole down the middle. You can run a wire through that hole, drop the bait down the rat hole, then tie the wire to something.

Put lewis lye in their holes & they won't come back. But they may move to another building where you don't want them. Works on skunks too.

don't understand why rlpintx would shoot his hose with ratshot, but hey it's your hose,...try mixing lye with water and pour down the hole....

Naw I don't like varmets even though I do like the killdeer around. A flock of barn swallows help me mow and I get a kick out of them as well. :)^D

A friend of mine used that same thing on Racoons getting into his garbage, I am told it kills them in minutes. What is in the fly bait that works so well?

I would think so. They get it on their feet & when it starts to burn, they lick it off & head for water . Some make it, some don't, but they won't come back to a hole where they can smell it.

Go in about 20 minutes after lights out, turn on the lights and have at it with a shovel and hoe! Another way, mini flash light held in your mouth and a 22 with bird shot, spot the rat and they sit up really nice and wait for the noise!

Golden Malerin fly bait and cola - mix and pleave out in a pan where coons can get into it. Very effective - they usually only get a few feet. I've had good success with Blue Death rodent poision where they are bait shy. Had a colony of mice carrying off bait and hiding it. Blue Death put an end to that.

When I moved to my place you could go in the barn after dark and turn on the lights and it looked like the floor was moving, there were so many rats. I used Blue Streak fly bait and pepsi in a shallow pan. Some of em never made it away from the pan. Got a couple coons, a skunk, and one stray cat. Be careful where you put it because it will kill EVERYTHING that gets into it. Been here 8 years have not had a rat problem since the first year.

I use something called "One Bite" or something like that, Tomcat didn't work as well. I shove it into their tunnels and cover it so the other animals don't get at it.

We have cats that do a pretty good job, but there are more mice than the cats can get to. So, I get the bait that comes in cakes and put it in the middle of a 2 inch piece of pipe that's a couple of feet long and slide it under things where they go. The mice can get at it but the domestic animals can't. I'll retrieve the pipes and reload about once a year.
