Kenseth fined $100,000 and loses 50 points because one con rod [engine not even built by Joe Gibbs Racing] is 3 grams underweight. Good work Toyota Racing development.Guess they don't have a scale. You should got one dem Chevrolets. Or Ford since now I like Keslowski. This mistake was of no speed advantage as far as I can tell.He gets to keep the trophy. Haha.

This a game of inches or "grams"? Can't see how 3 grams was that bad. The ToyOyters have been really fast this year, where are the Ford and Chevys? Makes me wonder what else is going on??

must have only checked one, and lighter parts do make an advantage. If that engine wasn"t balanced it would not have held together long at 9000 rpm. Somehow I doubt we are hearing the whole story, NASCAR censors information more than China....

It has been rumored that Toyota has been sandbagging ever since they entered Nascar. Maybe they are just starting to show what they have, and it may be bad news for Ford and GM. Buy the way, I'd walk before I'd buy a Toyota.

3 grams is only 1/2 of one percent of rod weight! Doesn't seem like a killer to me

Ask Mark Martin that question...

Martin entered the 1990 season with a new sponsor in Folgers and was a favorite to winning the Sprint Cup championship. He started the season with a 21st place finish in the Daytona 500, his first finish in the big race in six attempts. His team was met with controversy following his second career win at Richmond. During post-race inspection it was determined he had raced with an illegal carburetor spacer, which may have helped him gain an edge over the rest of the field in terms of fuel mileage. As a result, Martin was penalized 46 championship points and crew chief Robin Pemberton was fined $40,000.

Following a DNF the next race, Martin finished no worse than 14th over the final 26 races. He gained the championship points lead one-third into the season and held onto it for 16 races before dropping it to Dale Earnhardt with two races to go. Despite having three wins, 16 top fives, 23 top tens, and three poles, Martin lost to Earnhardt by 26 points in the final standings. Had the 46 point penalty never occurred, he theoretically would have won the championship over Earnhardt by 20 points instead.

Sounds like NASCAR found something they didnt like, but wasnt technically illegal, so when they found the con rod, they laid it on em! Id bet the farm there's something there besides a poorly balanced rod. Pretty common way for sanctioning bodies to police things in lower level/grass roots motorsports with less detailed rule books.

The lighter the weight of the moving parts the faster it will rev, and you can bet Toyota knows just how light they can be and stay together.
