Just for the record...

Short version, bought item on fleabay from a long-time seller with + feedback in the thousands.

Paid with PayPal.

They wasted no time in sucking funds out of my linked bank account. (IMAGINE that!)

Seller cancelled transaction because "item is no longer available for sale" and refunded money to PayPal.

Looking at my PayPal account, funds are refunded, transaction is marked "complete", yet funds are frozen for as long as a couple of weeks, with no explanation.

I guess on their planet, "transaction complete means something different than it does on mine, where "transaction complete" would mean I had my money available to ME!

Even at today"s low interest rates, how much do they SCAM off of us sheeple by doing stuff like that?

I have been a long-time ebayer who lives in a remote area, and often been so thankful to be able to search for and buy a needed item not readily available near me, but ebay has certainly come along way from those early days when it was FUN dealing there!!

"ebay has certainly come along way from those early days when it was FUN dealing there!! "

I agree with you there. It used to be like a big yard sale, now it's mostly dealers who import junk from China. Plus eBay and their subsidiary PayPal tighten the screws at regular intervals

Ebay, Or scambay as we call it is only used by me to access the viewing of what is for sale.
I bought an item on there 5 years ago. I called the company that was selling the item I wanted, I said "I will pay for the item you are asking for, + shipping" I will send you a personal check for the item, $30 later I had a set of used gage blocks. I had told them when I called that I didnt have a scambay account and that it would be easier to just let me send them the money. (they agreed)

I agree. I canceled my PayPal account last week. I only buy stuff on ebay I can pay for with a money order or check.

If you do enough transactions on ebay and paypal you soon learn to identify scammers. I can't complain. You need to keep a daily report on your paypal account.

I'm with you----I recently cancelled my paypal. Sorry but you do not need to be connected to my bank account. Now I just use ebay to check on prices and availability.

I'm done with ebay and pay pal. Call me an old hard headed fart but I'm still done. They can take pay pal and ebay and shove it.....

Ebay used to make some money off me from auctions but after adding all the silly rules and pushing pay pal on everyone its no longer seller friendly unless you'd like to pay them a monthy fee to house your "ebay store".

Ebay screwed up when the assumed that users would just fall in line and say "ok" to all the rules they were pushing. I'm one user who refueses to be yanked around by some business that doesnt know me from Adam... If they can elect to change the rules I can elect not to use their service. I think it's safe to say many others felt the same way. Ebay auctions are down by at least 75% from 10 years ago. Ebay has no one to blame but themselves...

Just don't use the link to your bank acct. Change payment method to your credit card when asked. Then you have some recourse. Otherwise, you entire bank acct. is at risk. I don't use a debit card either for that reason. No problems so far. Some sellers don't want you to use paypal because of fees and other problems.
