I'm still trying to get used a computer with Windows 7.

My main complaint now is the screen looks light and "washed out", instead of darker, sharp and clean like the XP I'm used to.

On my laptop, I can adjust the screen brightness by holding the Fn key down and hitting the "Page Up" or "Page Down" keys. Doesn't work on 7. Is there another way to adjust the screen on 7? I've gone through all my books on Windows 7.

Thanks for any input.

go to a clear spot on your desktop and right click...a list will come up...click on personalize...try the classic setting or the high contrast if classic still too light.

Thanks! Going to the classic setting made a BIG difference.

I may become compatible with Windows 7 yet.

You monitor has a menu of settings all it's own. Start pushing the buttons ON THE MONITOR and you'll find anything you need.

Wait till you see the most recent version of Windows. Nothing where or how it used to be. Works like an Ipad

"Works like an Ipad "

I have an iPad and don"t like it. But Windows 8 is far worse. I don"t understand what they were thinking; someone at Microsoft should be fired.

I have windows eight now. I had XP. I should have shopped around for a computer with windows 7 instead of buying this one. Buyer remorse.

I don't even want Windows 7.That is why I bought a factory reconditioned Dell laptop. It is the only way I could get Windows Vista, which is very similar to XP.

Go down to the lower left world with microsoft imblem. Left click and go up right side to control panal. Left click and go to display and left click, options will be on left side to adjust the monitor.

If this doesn't work, get some 10 year old kid.

Wife's computer at work quit. They have used a company to fix their computer glitches, so she called them about getting new. They said, DO NOT get one with windows 8!! She finally ordered one from Dell, as windows 7 was available that way! Sounds like Microsoft messed up pretty big this time!

I was dummer than YOU I bought a new unit with 7 then two weeks latter they called and said hey you paid for windows 8 bring it in and we will update your unit. Like a fool I did not knowing how bad 8 was. Sure wish I could go back to 7 but they say no way.

Have you tried going to Control Panel and selecting Appearance and Personalization? It will let you change your backgrounds and desktop appearances. Go to Start,All Programs, Accessories, and then click on Getting Started. It has the tutorials that show how to use Windows 7. I started with Vista and upgraded to 7 and really like it. Are you using a CRT monitor or flat LCD? Hope this helps.

I got this desktop last January, right in time for income taxes. Ugh! Had no choice, the old one gave up the ghost or was so close the computer shop didn't even let me take it home before the new one came in. This new one is a holdover with 7. Computer shop man said we're lucky it happened now while there are still a few new ones with 7 on them. Jim

i been using 7 a couple years now,its ok but i cant lie to it like XP and make it do what i want it to.
i actually had a laptop with Vista and liked it better than 7.

Goose,

I loved XP! But once I got used to Windows 7, I really like it.

I needed a new computer this fall and I made sure I got a 7 before the change-over to 8.

Our XP Pro machines work just fine still. They get updates every month. I have XP Pro Disks to install on new or cleaned hard drives. I can't think of any reason to "Upgrade...??" If I just Had to get a new machine, I would put XP Pro on it.
