I just acquired a 1968 Toro Professional 70" reel mower. I was wondering if anyone knew where the serial number was on this machine and also how reverse works on it as well....best that I can tell by looking at diagrams and the machine itself, it works by two metal pulleys grinding on each other till your done backing up  I hope someone knows better than what I see. Thanks for all and any insight.

Does it have the single wheel in back and uses hydraulics for lifting the reels and powering them? It probably has a 12hp Kohler engine to power it. I've got one that I bought for the motor. It was used for mowing the greens on a golf course.

Forgot to mention when the snow is gone I can look and find the serial number on mine or maybe google toro lawn mowers and see if you see something familer.

Metal to metal doesn't work too good. One of the reverse pulleys probably had a lining of some type on it to eliminate metal to metal.

This site won't allow me to post a pic of it but here's a link to it http://i988.photobucket.com/albums/af3/edwar355/user85145_pic10361_1365990399.jpg I'll take a picture of the pulley tonight and see what y'all think

Wouldn't be hydraulic if a 68 but the Toro commercial distribuor should have all the parts manuals. Some of the Toro machines of that era didn't have the best drive system.
