Stuck Steering Wheel

Wondering if anybody on here might know something that i haven't thought of yet to removing the steering wheel on my IH 1600 loadstar dumptruck. It is splined and yes i've used a half a can of PB Blaster on it, sprayed it everyday for weeks, i can't put much heat to it due to all the wires and plastic under it. I tried the two holes in the center with a puller but it would not budge, so next i put a flat piece of metal under the spokes on each side of the wheel and used a two arm puller, ended up with a 24 inch breaker bar & socket and tighened the puller as tight as i could get it, still won't budge, even tapped on the end of the puller with a hammer to try to jar it loose. I'm thinking now its time to just cut it off somehow and get another steering wheel unless someone has a idea i haven't thought of!!)

You had me going til you said you tapped on it. I"d crank the puller down and get a BFH! Nothing to lose, huh? Wanna save the threads? Put the nut on a ways, use a heavy drift that fits inside the nut- no mushrooming or damage to the threads.

All I could recommend is to crank on the puller, tight as you can, then leave it. Next morning, crank it again. Leave it. PB. Then more waiting, wait, next day more cranking. Leave it. I"ve fund that"ll get lots of things loose, leave it under tension day after day.

I don't have any advice to offer, as my project for the last month or longer is trying to remove the steering wheel off a /53 Ferguson tractor. All of the above ideas I have used and still it is stuck there solid. Guess cutting it off is the only solution, , although it is a new steering wheel, will not go all the way down, (after market steering wheel)Cheers, Murray

Try an air hammer if you can get one. Put the puller on as tight as you can get it and the put the hammer against the hub and blast it. It's worked for me a few times.

The old car guys say this will work every time.

Get a nut that will fit the threads on the shaft- weld a ball bearing to it, slightly smaller than the outside diameter of the nut (so you can get a socket over the ball bearing to tighten the nut). Wrench it down as tight as you can. Put the puller on it, get good tension on the puller, then whack the end of puller, a few times. Something about the impact being better transmitted onto the shaft by the hard ball bearing, but its supposed to really work.

Since You can't heat it, How about freezing the shaft?
Get a can of "Canned Air" that is used to clean computers. Turn the can upside down and spray the shaft with the liquid.
It might work.
Have plenty of ventilation when You try it.
Good Luck.

Locktite makes a freezing product called Freeze & release that is supposed to help with items like that. Might give it a try.

Loosen the nut but leave in on a few turns to protect the threads and to protect your teeth when the wheel lets go.
Apply heavy upward load to two opposite spots on the outside edge of the steering wheel, you can use your knee caps, or a couple of pieces of 2x4 or use your imagination and what you have handy.
Use a brass drift and a hand sledge on the end of the shaft and don't be shy.
When the hub lets go remove the nut and the wheel.

Put your puller back on and tighten it till it won't move. BFH and hit the drive end of the puller HARD. Tighten and do it again till it pops.

Shoot the thing with ether... starting fluid then follow it right away with PB Blaster or the like. Quick shot and right away with the PB. The freeze of the ether will make the thing shrink a wee bit then when it warms back up it'll suck the PB in.

Repeat a couple times and then throw your puller back on it and it'll slip off of there like it was riding on butter... :)
