Favorite Tractor of Non-favorite Brand

Always interesting to hear what everyone hear has to say. I was wondering what everyone's favorite tractor is that is not made by their favorite brand.

I love Olivers, but I have a few non Oliver tractors that I have always loved to operate. Although I think Olivers look the best, I enjoy the sight of any old tractor working to earn its keep.

A couple of my favorites:
- Farmall 1206 -never ran one but they sure do look and sound sweet
- Minneapolis Moline G1000 - Never ran a MM before but they always pull well and are a nice looking tractor
- Ford 7000 row crop. Cousins had one long ago. They turned the clock on it. Tractor has well over ten thousand hours.
- John Deere 4020 - I have spent a lot of time on a 4020 and they are a good tractor. They are not full of power for their size but they are very nimble and simple to operate.

I drive case but like my friends Oliver 1850 real well. I also always wanted an Allis 175 or 185. I always thought they would be good for chores and yard work and haying. Never drove one tho.

I have several tractors I use regularly but out of all of them I think the one I could call my favorite has to be my 1959 Fordson Power Major, starts everytime, easy on fuel, very low maintenance, easy to operate and paid for a long time ago.

I'm an Oliver guy, but I really like the AC D- series. First real farm job was baling with a D14- I really liked the Power Director, both as a live PTO device, and the high-low feature. And they always seem to run so smooth!

I have all green but the IH 856,1256 and 1206 always impressed me.My grandfather had a new AC 190XT and I like them as well.I have never drove one but the Case 930 or 1030"s look neat as well especially with a narrow front. The oliver 1650,1750 and 55 series would be ok as well.Hard to pick just one.

I always liked the Fordson Dexta that my uncle bought new when I was just a little guy. Wouldn't be opposed to having one. Another uncle had a Super 55 Oliver at the time and a third uncle had a Massey 35. I prefered that Dexta over the other ones. Just liked the sound of it.

Grew up on Farmall red and Case flambeu red tractors but spent some time on a John Deere styled G and liked it. Would not mind having one.

The one I will always think the best was a 720D. After having a 400D and a 560D IH, anything would do. I traded troubles with my brother, a turned up 4020 for his 1950 Oliver with transmission troubles. I went through 2 bull gears and 1 axle. It had the noisy cab with the rattling door, fender fuel tanks, and that sweet whining Detroit. Worst tractor I ever owned but I would love to have it back. I would just drive it in parades only.

I own four tractors. of those. the one I would hate to see go would be my 1086 IH. Not my favorite brand or the one I use the most, but the one I would keep if I could only keep one.

In other words , "the best of the worst" so to speak? For me it would be (in order) G1000 Vista , D 21 Allis . Can you tell I'm a '60,s/'70,s muscle tractor fan ? As to the 1206 IH , I worked fall plowing for a farmer in 1970 and he had an 806 and the 1206 and I plowed with both. Some say the 1206 was just a turbocharged 806. Well maybe they shared engines but that's where it must have stopped. That 1206 was half again the tractor the 806 was both in power and smoothness and ride and handling. As to favorites, I like the big 2 wd,s from the '60,s/'70,s in order 6030 JD , 1170 / 1570 Case and 2255 Ollie.

we run wostly deere at this point but grew up with ihc and oliver/white. the tractor i miss the most is the 1026. Dad bought it the week I was born and had it until I was 11. I didn't get to run it much and of course when your'e 10 any tractor you get to drive is very cool but I loved them then and still do. "someday" I'll have another to drive.

I grew up on the two bangers and have always had a soft spot for green, not that they're better, it's what I grew up with and was surrounded by in my 'green' neighborhood. That said, my two favorites around the yard are the Oliver 88 and SC Case. The SC nudges the Oliver a little when it comes to being easy to get on and go with the hand clutch, and I just plain like to drive it. The Oli is smoother, snappier, a little quieter and has a few more ponys, if needed. The only time I use a two banger anymore is if I need a small tractor with a three point hitch. Jim

Minnie Moe Jet Star.
Neighbor had one when I was a kid and we were always impressed with the
"awesome" power it had!
It died by the time I was a teenager, sat in a fence row until about 10 years ago.
Sure wish I had went and dug it out. I don't know what happened to it now.

Wow...that means they all can't be my favorite??? LOL Well I guess IH and JD would be my faves so maybe any other brand is open. I have never had one of these myself...and prolly never will because of the money they bring, but I'd have to go with an Oliver Super 66; It's the only time at a NATPA pull in Div I that I know before I even unload my Super C that I am aiming for 2nd place in #3500. #4000, and #4500 classes.
Another choice would be a Ford N...they never seem to amaze me what they are capable of...plowing fools they are!

Guys, Just about any larger hp tractor with a big Honkin LP tank sticking out of it!
OR
A Stieger Cougar or Panther with a Cat 3406 pushin 400 hp to the ground! Got-ta Love that Pea Green color.

John A.

Allis Chalmers. Had a WD on the farm, ran like a top, always started, alway s put in a good days work. A neighbor we shared equipment and labor with had a D17 Series II that was just as sweet. Our other tractors were a Fordson Dexta, Ford 6000 Commander and a Farmall Cub. Fords are my favorite "color."

I like the 4020. Rather run it than the 4430 or 4450. Wouldn't mind having one of my own, even though I prefer red paint.

Liked the 7580 Allis I had, puling fool. It would pull a 6 bottom plow through mud that was deep enough you couldn't lift the plow clear. Not much of a PTO horse, though.

190 Allis was like the 4020, little smaller, maneuverable, just handy to have around. Only thing is it's even slower than a JD.

I bleed red but I grew up on the old EH and CK Case tractors. I had a 1030CK that was a favorite, it pulled everything I needed and was really good on a baler. Not bad on fuel either. I've got a little 4630 NH that I really like also. Not much HP but a handy little utility tractor.

I have a JD 1936A and probably will not have any other but have always admired the Farmall Super M's. If opportunity (and money) were to present itself would go for one.
