hyd cylinder

I haven"t worked on the newer piston type cylinders before. I have one apart and a seal kit here but the piston is stuck in the bore. How do they come apart without bending or breaking anything? I have tapped on the end with a dead blow hammer but I"m afraid of damaging it.

Thanks in advance

Can we see a picture of the cyl? Is the piston stuck in the area that it travels or at the gland end ? In either event , it indicates the tube is damaged, perhaps it has a dent in it ? Any dent deep enough to jam the piston makes it junk.

I have done them in a few ways. #1 apply air to it but when doing so be careful or the rod/piston can become a bullet. #2 is hook one end to something heavy and the other end to a chain hoist or other such thing
