OT: spring safety warning

This is something I have been posting about for a few years on FB and I suppose it could be tractor related because I see it while driving my tractor down the road, so I hope you will indulge me for a bit. Anyway here it is.

NEVER LET ANYONE RIDE IN YOUR VEHICLE WITH THEIR FEET ON THE DASH!

This is a woman thing mostly, and I've got to say that I enjoy those pink toes as much as anyone, but if they are against the windshield and over the airbag when it goes off it is an ugly thing to see. I've seen the results of this twice in my travels and it's not something I want to see again. Remember, in some vehicles the airbags go off in just a 5 mph crash, so something that would be a bad day maker can quickly turn into a life changer. So please just make sure everyone keeps their feet on the floor, I can see the toes there anyway.

I guess if a person had one foot out the side window the air bag might not send that leg up past there ear. But it is a great example of how people make decisions that have the potential of having very dangerous consequences, and think nothing of their actions.

And in vehicles without airbags the person with their feet on the dash stands a good chance of "submarining" in an accident. With your feet up, your hips rotate down, during the accident the lap belt will slide up as you body goes under.
There was a 12 year old girl a few years ago here on I-69 cut in half from the seat belt when it slid up. Belt went almost completely through her. I knew one of the EMTs, he was really shaken for a while after that accident.

Good advise, jon f mn. I have another one that I harp on with the wife... don't hold the dog on your lap while riding!

My fear is on a quick stop the little guy will go flying into the dash or windshield or in a collision he would be killed or injured by the air bag deploying.

Mine did, she would put her arm across my chest to hold me back as I was standing on the seat beside her. When the whole family was in the car, 9 kids and mom and dad, my spot was lying in the rear window.

Being the youngest of 6 kids, I sometimes laid in the rear window too. Would have made a perfect projectile through the windshield if Dad had ever hit something head-on. Of course that would have been AFTER knocking everyone in the head on my fly-by out the front.

Nope, that is a time honored tradition for those, along with the bungee holding the door closed. lol

Only thing I really liked about dropping below I-10 in Florida- you get out late at night you can set the cruise at 80, prop your foot up, and stroll.
