Slow start - not much farming going on

Took a trip halfway across the state today. Centeral Michigan to way down in SE Michigan. Used a different route home. 4 Hours each way. Didn"t see any active farming going on - not one field touched. With the possible exception of spreading some.(Understand rrlund is busy at work spreading his, but I didn"t go past his place!)

I got out in the field and disked up some sod yesterday, about 5 acres. Open station tractor - wearing Carhart coveralls under Carhart jacket - gun mufflers and shooting goggles to protect from the cold wind. Not a pleasant experience, Came in danged cold. But I"m the first farmer I"ve seen getting on the land.

I've had to stop hauling manure. We're right there between frost and no frost. I cleaned feedlots Friday, got halfway across a field and was glad I'd put the duals on. Had to unload in one spot and go like the devil to get out. I've got one field that I can get on,but I've been hauling on that one all winter and it's covered. Don't know when I'll be able to get any hauled where I want it.
I guess it's still early in the whole scheme of things. We've had a few years that spoiled us. This is closer to normal.

neighbor was out discing today. Around here you raise a lot of dust. 10 miles south he said the filed was too wet. We must have had some isolated rain ha ha. Thundering right now, storm warning calls for nickle size hail, but only .25 inch of rain.

Nothing going on here in my part of NWIA. A person could drive a tractor almost anywhere in the field but he'd be packing it like crazy. There's still a little snow on the north side of some groves. Jim

Down in my area. Where was you at. Putting on anhydrous all around me. I have fit ground and planted carrots. Dust is a flying.

We took a short drive today and noticed about the same.
Spreader work on some fields, wheat coming up in others.
Didn't see any other field work yet.

I got four of five food plots all disced at least twice. I"m ready to fertilize and hope to plant oats this week in one of them. Corn and other crops will wait a bit yet. I"m 25 miles SW of Grand Rapids Michigan. I"m seeing anhydrous going down too.

Still beating the last of the maple syrup to death here. I won't even dream of getting on the land for another two to three weeks. Can't spread any manure until after the 15th anyway. I see some being hauled out and piled. I don't have much of any tillage normally, but am hoping to turn up a few acres of hay land and re-seed it. Fild work will be mostly spreading wood ash, and maybe a ton or two of commercial. My neighbor that grazes cattle here will spread manure.
